New Cowdenbeath boss Gary Locke will be involved at Berwick

Cowdenbeath have appointed former Hearts, Kilmarnock and Raith Rovers manager Gary Locke as their new manager, with Locke set to take charge of today’s game at Berwick Rangers.

Club officials met with the 41-year-old on Thursday night to discuss the Central Park hot-seat that was vacated by Liam Fox on Monday.

Locke is straight in at the deep-end and has to undertake a rescue mission with the Blue Brazil stranded at the foot of League Two and the possibility of a third consecutive relegation looming large.

Cowdenbeath had tried to lure former manager Mixu Paatelainen back to the job earlier this week and another ex-boss Colin Cameron was also in the frame however Locke who started his managerial career at Tynecastle in 2013 emerged as the top target.

Locke joined Raith in May but he lost that job after a 1-0 defeat from Morton last month.

Now he is making a quick return to management in Fife.

Coach Neil Hastings and experienced first team squad member Burton O’Brien took training on Thursday night, however Locke will be involved against Berwick.

Fraser Mullen is available after suspension and Matthew Rooney is set to return after a knock. Kenny Adamson remains out injured.
