Raith Rovers have raided English non-league football for a second time this summer to snap up Richard Chin.
The 22-year-old has joined on a two-year deal following an impressive season – scoring seven times – with Farnborough in National League South.
He becomes Barry Robson’s fourth signing ahead of the new season in the wake of the captures of full-back Jai Rowe, who was brought in from Boston United, and keepers Aidan Glavin and Josh Rae.
A statement read: “Raith Rovers Football Club is excited to announce the signing of Richard Chin, who joins the club on a two-year deal following a standout campaign with Farnborough.
“The 22-year-old wide player arrives at Stark’s Park with a growing reputation, having impressed with his versatility and energy across both defence and midfield.
“Equally comfortable at full-back or in a more advanced role, Richard provides a dynamic option on either flank.
“English-born but of Malaysian and Seychellois heritage, Richard has become the first ever Malaysian Raith Rovers player.
Chin a ‘strong addition’, say Raith
“He now makes the step north to Kirkcaldy, becoming another strong addition to Barry Robson’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.”
The wide man, who can also play in defensive midfield, began his career at Charlton Athletic, joining at the age of just six.
However, after loans with Dartford and Bath City, the London-born player was freed by his local club last summer.
He departed having made 18 first-team appearances for Charlton following his debut against Leyton Orient in November 2021.
Chin enjoyed his breakthrough season at Charlton in 2022/23 when he made 15 outings – mostly in the cup competitions but also four in League One.
It was enough for the Addicks to take up the option of another year on his contract.
Then boss Dean Holden said: “He’s a good, young player with a bright future ahead of him, so I’m pleased we’ve got him for another year.
“As well as his physical and technical attributes, he’s impressed me with his work-rate and his focus on developing his game.”
