Barry Robson has revealed Paul McMullan turned down more lucrative offers at other clubs to sign for Raith Rovers.
The former Dundee and Dundee United winger has penned a two-year deal at Stark’s Park after leaving Derry City in the League of Ireland.
The 29-year-old spent two years in Northern Ireland and was a fans’ favourite at the Brandywell.
But he departed by mutual consent earlier this week, citing family reasons for a return to Scotland.
He is now in line to make his first appearance for Raith in Saturday’s friendly away to Premiership-bound Falkirk.
“We need that [signing],” Robson told Courier Sport. “We’re a bit light up there [in attack].
“Obviously, we lost Jamie Gullan [to St Johnstone] and we’re still waiting on [the injured] Callum Smith and Jack Hamilton.
“So, we took Paul in and we think he’s a good signing.
Robson: McMullan will be ‘real asset’
“He’s got a good bit of speed about him and he can play in that attacking area. He’s good on transition.
“So, I think he could be a real asset for us in the football club.”
McMullan, who also spent time on loan at Dunfermline earlier in his career, has clinched the Championship title with both Dundee and United.
The former Celtic youngster helped United to the championship in 2020 and won promotion through the play-offs with the Dark Blues a year later.
He then played a big part as Dundee took the title two years ago before departing for Derry after not being offered a new contract at Dens Park.
Robson is delighted to have added a proven winner to his ambitious squad for the season ahead.
“He knows the division well,” added Robson. “And that was a big part of it for me as well.
“I think he’s had offers from other clubs – financially better offers – and he chose us, which says a lot. That pleased me.
“So, we’re looking forward to getting him in. There’s no guarantees in football, but he’s one that, I think, has proved his worth in this league over the years.”
