He picked up 14 yellow cards and two reds last season with the disciplinary hangover extending into this campaign but Raith’s Iain Davidson insists he will not be changing his aggressive style of play any time soon.
The 34-year-old has missed Rovers’ opening three league games because of a suspension that carried over from last year.
Having now served his time, Davidson admits he is raring to go again in League 1, starting today at Airdrie.
However, he believes the fact he missed three games because of indiscretions from last season is unfair.
Davidson said: “For someone who gets quite a lot of yellow cards because of the position I play and my aggressive style of play, it is something that should be looked at.
“We had Stuart Lovell and Michelle Evans from the PFA in the other day which was good.
“I think Christophe Berra (Hearts captain) has had a big hand in it as well. It is going to change this year whereby if you get a certain number of yellow cards by a certain date it then clears which sounded positive.
“But it has always been frustrating that it is the start of a new season and it should be wiped clean.
“It’s not just me, a lot of other players feel like that.
“For it to roll over to the next season is a strange one but hopefully there will be progression on that front.”
Davidson added: “It is the way I have always played. Even when I was at centre-mid, you are always going to make the odd mistimed tackle.
“It is the same playing centre-back.
“Sometimes it is just one of those things as you have to be aggressive playing in that position.
“No doubt I will pick up yellow cards again but it would be ideal if I could cut some out.”
Although Davidson missed the opening three league games, he was able to play in the Betfred and Challenge Cup ties so he is fully match fit.
And he admits he is desperate to help the team pick up three points at Airdrie after enduring a frustrating afternoon last weekend watching his team-mates salvage a draw at home to East Fife.
He said: “It is nice to be available for selection on Saturday.
“It has been very frustrating watching from the sidelines, even more so when things are not going right.
“Last Saturday against East Fife wasn’t great and the only good thing that came out of it from our point of view was that although we didn’t play well at all, we didn’t lose the game.
“Me, Lewis (Vaughan) and Chris Duggan were sitting there watching the game just choking to be on the pitch.
“It is difficult when you are watching as you obviously cannot influence the game so it will be nice to be available again.
“I will have to wait and see if I am picked but I am champing at the bit to get back and try to help us kick on.”
