Montrose manager Stewart Petrie is looking for his side to start taking their home performances with them on the road, starting at Airdrie today.
The Gable Endies’ boss has had one eye looking up the League One table and his other eye looking down.
Petrie said: “It is a tight league but this would be a great game to win in terms of keeping pace with the top four and putting a bigger gap between Airdrie and ourselves.
“However, we are also mindful of the fact that things can turn quickly and we need points to ensure that we are not dragged into things at the bottom.
“There are 10 games to go so there are lots of points still to be played for and we can win a lot of them if we are consistent every week.”
Picking up points as frequently in away games as they do at home could be the key to Petrie only looking up the way.
He explained: “We lost to Airdrie at home back in October but since then we have started to hit a level of consistency in our home performances.
“We have won five and drawn two of the seven games played there but we are not hitting that level away from Links Park.
“Airdrie are on a disappointing run just now and this game will be more difficult as a result of that but if we can reach the same levels that we have hit at home then we can pick something up.”
Last weekend saw Montrose go down 4-1 at Raith Rovers but they have moved on.
Petrie said: “The early goal that Raith scored hurt us.
“The plan was to keep things tight for the first 20 minutes or so and then open up a little. However, within 90 seconds that was out of the window.
“We were a goal down against a full-time side at their place so it was an uphill battle. We lost goals either side of half-time but we got a goal back with 20 or so minutes to go and we thought that we could put some pressure on.
“However, we went 4-1 down and that was that. We have dusted ourselves down and will go again at Airdrie.”
Matty Allan, Martyn Fotheringham and Craig Johnston all miss out through injury.
