Arbroath boss Dick Campbell welcomes two quality additions to his squad as he gears up for life in the Championship

Arbroath boss Dick Campbell has expressed his delight after making his first two new signings of the summer with the veteran boss certain he has added further quality to his League 1-winning squad.

The 65-year-old is gearing up for life in the Championship this season and has retained most of the players who did so well in the previous campaign.

Now, he has added wing-back Scott Stewart (23) from Airdrie and keeper Derek Gaston (32) from Morton.

The duo bring the total number of players in Campbell’s roster to 16 with the Gayfield gaffer revealing how many more he would like to add before the start of the season.

He said: “I would say the two new lads are classic Dick Campbell signings.

“Their backgrounds are quality.

“I was looking to bring in a goalie and Derek will provide a lot of competition for Darren Jamieson, who was great for us last season.

“He had been offered another contract with Morton but he wants to go part-time.

“Scott wants to remain part-time because he is a schoolteacher.

“He will bring pace to the team while Derek brings a lot of experience to the squad and is at the right age.”

Arbroath will return for pre-season training on June 17 with Campbell adding: “We have 16 signed which is a good place to be at this stage of the season but I am probably looking to bring another four in.

“Included in that four could be loan players as that was a road I didn’t really go down last season.

“We only had one but the issue I have with loans is that a lot of the Premiership clubs won’t make up their minds until August who they will farm out.”

Meanwhile, Arbroath have released details of season ticket prices for the forthcoming campaign.

And despite the fact the Red Lichties will be playing in the Championship with big games against the likes of the two Dundee clubs, there has only been a modest rise in the prices for an adult while others remain frozen.

The club said: “This is a huge season for the Lichties as we head into the Championship as League 1 Champions.

“We will welcome Alloa Athletic, Ayr United, Dundee, Dundee United, Dunfermline Athletic, Greenock Morton, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Partick Thistle and Queen of the South to Gayfield in our most challenging season in many years.

“This is why more than ever we need your support!

“It would be easy for us the club to significantly inflate the price of season tickets but we want to show our gratitude to our fans who have supported and backed the club brilliantly over the last few seasons.

“The prices for our Junior and juvenile season tickets will remain frozen, whilst the senior-citizen ticket will rise by £10 and the adult season ticket will only rise by £20 (about £1 a game more).
