Under-pressure Dundee boss Neil McCann is adamant his team still has belief but admits, right now at Dens Park, confidence is in short supply.
Saturday saw the Dark Blues slump to a fifth-consecutive defeat in all competitions as Motherwell breezed past them 3-1 at Dens.
It leaves McCann’s men rooted to the bottom of the Premiership without a single point from their four league fixtures, so far.
But the gaffer is adamant with four new faces added last week in the run-up to the transfer deadline and two weeks to work in training until the next game, against Rangers at Ibrox, he and his players can turn things round.
“I was asked the question is there a lack of belief – there’s not. There’s maybe a lack of confidence but we have got a good side,” said Neil.
Dundee’s position is not too different to last year when it took until mid-September for the first league win to come and after a miserable August, he’s looking for the same.
With the players he added, Neil is confident the necessary improvement will come.
“We started last season like this and got ourselves going. We’ve added another number of players to the group just recently and I thought those boys performed well.
“Calvin Miller was a real threat down the left side when he came on and he is going to be a real good signing for us.
“I thought Benjamin (Kallman) worked really hard up top and got a good goal. Young Ryan (Inniss), coming on at the back, did well.”
He did, though, accept the weekend performance, when more soft goals were lost, was not good enough.
“We are disappointed that we’ve lost another game.
“Listen, it’s tough for us and I’d love to see the team take the lead. We are striving for that because I think it will give us the release because I think we are playing quite tight just now.
“You can clearly see that we are a wee bit lacking in confidence and we are giving ourselves a lot to do.”
While there are no first-team fixtures this weekend because of the international break, the reserves will be busy as they faced Rangers today and then have Motherwell in the Irn-Bru Cup on Thursday.
