Former St Mirren manager Ian Murray has emerged as an early candidate to take on the role of the Dundee Academy chief when it is revamped as part of the SFA’s Project Brave.
The post, along with five others, has only just been advertised by the Dark Blues as they work towards meeting the ruling body’s criteria for the initiative that is scheduled to be up and running by the start of the 2018/19 season.
And the Tele understands 36-year-old Murray is interested in taking on the post at Dens Park.
He is currently working in Norway as assistant manager at Asker, a second division side.
Murray is, though, interested in returning to the Scottish game and, just last month, was one of the names linked with replacing Gary Bollan at Forfar, though the Sky Blues opted for Jim Weir instead.
Just a few seasons ago, Murray was regarded as one of the brightest young coaching talents in the Scottish game because of a successful spell in charge at part-time Dumbarton.
That led to him being appointed Buddies boss in May 2015 but his time there proved short and, after a run of disastrous results, he resigned the following December.
As well as his time in coaching and management, Murray had a successful playing career that saw him first catch the eye at Hibs and also include spells at Rangers and Norwich City. He was also capped six times by Scotland.
In order to be part of Project Brave it’s understood Dundee will be making a financial commitment of around an extra £200,000 a year and interviews for the new posts, four full-time and two part-time, will be taking place in the near future.
