Dundee’s Kevin Holt seeking some home comfort after latest Dens loss to Aberdeen

Dundee defender Kevin Holt has admitted a home win is now overdue.

Aberdeen left Dens Park with all three points after a rather flattering 3-1 victory on Sunday.

Holt had fired the hosts ahead but they couldn’t hang on and the Dons pegged them back before a late flurry made it look more comfortable for the visitors than it was in reality.

What it all adds up to for the Dark BLues, however, is a sum total of just two points taken from a possible 12 on their own pitch this season after a loss to Rangers, draw with Hamilton, another draw with Kilmarnock and now defeat to the Dons.

Next up at home on October 1 are Celtic so that first league win at Dens won’t get any easier to achieve.

Holt acknowledged, though, that the longer they leave it the worse it will get.

He said: “We had Rangers, Hamilton and Kilmarnock at home in the league before this one and we really should have had a win out of those.

“Had we played as well in those other matches as we did against Aberdeen then we probably would have had a home victory by now.

“I don’t think we deserved to lose that game (versus the Dons) but we do really need to start winning our home matches.

“Maybe we just need one win to spark things off and get the monkey off the back.

“The longer it goes it’s not great.

“The fans get restless and other teams start to not fear coming here.

“That’s not what you want because you need your home ground to be a fortress, so to speak.

“Our next home game is against Celtic so that won’t be easy but we definitely need to start winning at Dens.

“I can understand the supporters’ frustration because we haven’t played well in those other games, while we did play well enough to get at least a draw against Aberdeen.”

Indeed, Holt echoed manager Paul Hartley’s assertion that the scoreline on Sunday flattered Derek McInnes’ men.

Asked if that was the case, he replied: “I think so, yes.

“I don’t think we deserved a 3-1 defeat.

“As the second half wore on, if any side looked like they were going to go on and win it was us.

“However, we switched off for a second at their second goal and you can’t do that against a side with as good players as Aberdeen have.

“It was a good cross and a good header but it just shows that it only takes one cross and you are a goal behind, no matter how well you have done for the other 89 minutes.

“You just can’t afford to switch off.”

Needless to say, Holt took very little consolation from his goal that lit up the match after just 13 minutes.

He said: “It was good build-up play and a great wee back-heel from Nick (Ross).

“I just had to hit it across the keeper and, thankfully, it went in.

“However, we didn’t win the game so that’s disappointing.”
