Comment: Dundee will be ruing dropping two points at Dens

Action from the game at Dens.
Action from the game at Dens.

Ross County boss Jim McIntyre insisted after Saturday’s draw at Dens that his team were the better side on the day.

Certainly on balance of chances created, he had a point but the fact remains that there is precious little between all the clubs involved in the dogfight below fifth place in the Premiership.

Dundee, who performed poorly in defeat last week at Kilmarnock, upped their game on Saturday and the display was an improvement on the Rugby Park showing.

Boss Paul Hartley was also pleased with the clean sheet against the Staggies and the precious point secured but he will know his side have to create more in front of goal.

The chance that Marcus Haber spurned in the second half was a glorious one but clear-cut opportunities were few and far between for the Dark Blues.

It is easier said than done but the manager has to find a way to increase the supply of ammunition to the big Canadian and his strike partner Craig Wighton.

Home games against the sides in the bottom-six scramble now fall into the must-win category and Dundee will be ruing dropping two points at Dens.

They now face a daunting trip to face the Celtic juggernaut at Parkhead next week.

Dundee did draw there last season but Brendan Rodgers’ current Hoops side looks unstoppable in the Premiership.

The important thing is that the Dark Blues put in a performance that will give them a boost ahead of the games against the more beatable opposition of Hearts, Partick Thistle and St Johnstone before the winter break.
