Dundee’s Marcus Haber revitalised at Dens

Marcus Haber.
Marcus Haber.

Dundee’s Marcus Haber admits he is revelling in a new lease of life at Dens.

The big Canadian scored a dramatic last-gasp winner for the Dark Blues on Friday night against Hearts to cap an incredible fightback from being two goals down.

Haber’s header from a Tom Hateley free-kick was the striker’s second goal in succession and he believes he is benefiting from the team playing to his strengths.

The former St Johnstone and Crewe striker said: “I’m delighted for sure with the header. I was just looking to get a half-yard of space.

“It was an excellent ball from Tom and I was thrilled to see it go in.

“Tom puts these balls in with pace and usually gets it over the first man which is the main thing.

“He’s good at what he does. He’s right up there with who I’ve played with in terms of delivery from a dead-ball. To be fair, he’s a real weapon for us.

“Overall, I feel as though I’ve got a new lease of life.

“I’m enjoying my football and happy to be getting a run of games.

“The team is now playing to my strengths – that’s a big thing.

“The boys know where my strengths lie.

“If they can get balls into the danger area within the six-yard box or the penalty spot, then we’ve got a good chance.

“It’s about getting that familiarity in training as well on a normal basis.

“That’s what I live for, quality delivery. Long may it continue.

“I’ve been here for about two months now and it’s coming together.

“We just want to keep it growing.”

Haber’s first game for Dundee was certainly one to forget as they slumped to a dismal midweek defeat to Partick Thistle at Dens back in October.

Now, the front man is hoping to gauge just how far the Dark Blues have progressed since then when they travel to face the Jags on Wednesday night.

He added: “We’ve played them once since I’ve been here.

“That was my first game and we weren’t great that night.

“But we’ve improved a lot since then so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

“They’re a good, physical side with some decent players up front so it should be a good game.”
