James Vincent admits he and the rest of the Dundee players owe it to their manager as well as themselves to produce a big performance and result tonight against Ross County in Dingwall.
The Dark Blues are still trying to come to terms with the 7-0 mauling they received at home from Aberdeen on Friday night.
The Dundee players returned to training on Sunday and although they were spared watching a full video nasty replay of the Dons demolition, Vincent and his team-mates were fully aware they had let the club down.
Now, they are determined to try to put things right up in the Highlands.
He said: “We came in as planned on Sunday and spoke about a few things.
“We did some more work on Monday and we are looking forward to the game.
“We haven’t watched the video back of the Aberdeen match together.
“The gaffer touched on it and spoke to people individually, how we can learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future.
“But we haven’t touched on it too much as the games are coming around quickly which is a blessing.
“We can’t afford to dwell on it too much.
“We worked on a game plan to try to combat Aberdeen. We knew they were good at getting the ball into the box and we knew they were good at finishing.
“The manager prepared us well for that but we let him and ourselves down.
“We need to put it right in the next game at Ross County.”
Vincent added: “It is vital now to get points on the board to kick on and get a good position in the league.
“We have a game plan for Ross County and hopefully we can do that.
“Aberdeen played well but we just have to draw a line under it and move on to the next game now.
“We do have that fighting spirit and we have proved it in games.
“I think it just comes back round to the same old thing that I have been speaking about this season and that’s our inconsistency.
“It has been there for us in games and it hasn’t been including the other night.
“So we know what we need to do to focus on the game plan and try to get a result.
“From sixth place downwards, no-one has really pulled away as we have all been inconsistent.
“So it is important to get points on the board and push away from the teams below us.”
Vincent admitted that despite the Friday night hammering, Ross County will definitely not be taking anything for granted against Dundee.
The midfielder added: “If a team has been beaten heavily, it can work against you or for you.
“I don’t think they’ll look too much into it.
“It was a scoreline that was the heaviest I have been involved in along with many others in the team.
“I think on the night nothing went for us while they were good and took their chances.
“But I don’t think Ross County will look into it too much.
“They are realistic enough to know that we have been quite good defensively this season.
“So I don’t think they will believe they can do this or that to get a similar event.”
