Derry City boss Kenny Shiels looking for resolution to on-loan Dundee player’s situation

Derry City boss Kenny Shiels is still anxiously waiting to hear whether Dundee midfielder Nicky Low will be staying with the League of Ireland club after his loan deal ends a week tomorrow.

The Candystripes manager has made no secret of his desire to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent basis.

However, Low, who still has a year left on his deal at Dens, was left in limbo after Paul Hartley was sacked and then Neil McCann came in on an interim basis.

McCann, of course, is now the permanent Dark Blues boss but Low is understood to want assurances that he is very much in the manager’s thoughts for next season.

One thing which is certain, though, is that Shiels wants the situation clarified sooner rather than later.

The former Kilmarnock manager said: “We are making progress. He (Low) knows where we stand and we need to get an answer pretty quickly.

“It’s difficult to plan ahead when you haven’t got the detail of who’s going to stay.

“I am hopeful and although I don’t want to count my chickens, I feel like there is a good chance he will stay until the end of the season.”

However, if Low does return to Scotland, then Shiels is likely to turn his attention to former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Paul Keegan.
