Joe Shaughnessy is set for a move to Australia after rejecting a new contract to stay at Dundee.
The Dark Blues captain’s departure was confirmed by the club on Tuesday night.
And the 32-year-old Irishman will now head Down Under after agreeing a deal to join A-League outfit Newcastle Jets.
The Jets endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, finishing ninth, and are embarking on a new era under former Australian international Mark Milligan, who had a spell at Hibs.
‘Fantastic servants’
According to the Newcastle Herald, Shaughnessy will play a major part in the rebuild.
His Dens Park exit means defensive reinforcements are a priority for new head coach Steven Pressley.
Shaughnessy played a key role in the Dark Blues securing Premiership survival last season after returning from long-term injury.
Dundee this week also confirmed the departures of Antonio Portales, Scott Tiffoney, Mo Sylla and Scott Fraser.
The Dark Blues said: “The club is extremely grateful to all these players who have given so much to the club over a number of years, both on and off the pitch.
“They have all been fantastic servants to the club and the club wants to thank them all and wish them all the very best for the rest of their careers.”
