Dundee have five trialists out to impress Steven Pressley as the new head coach gets to grips with his Dark Blues squad.
Monday saw the start of the first full week of pre-season training with still plenty of work to be done to get the team ready for the new campaign.
Last week saw skipper Joe Shaughnessy depart alongside Antonio Portales, Mo Sylla, Scott Fraser and Scott Tiffoney.
Paul Digby and Drey Wright have arrived from Cambridge United and St Johnstone respectively and trained on Monday morning.
They have been joined by five trialists with the Dark Blues running the rule over three Monterrey youngsters alongside Kyle Magennis and Tommy McDermott.
Magennis is a free agent after leaving Kilmarnock in the summer with the former St Mirren and Hibs man struggling with injuries over the past few seasons.
He is out to prove he has got over those while McDermott is keen to get his career started.
After starting out at Port Vale, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder made nine first-team appearances before being snapped up by Burnley.
He made his first-team debut for the Clarets in an EFL Cup defeat at Premier League Wolves, playing the final 45 minutes, before starting in a 3-1 FA Cup win at Reading.
McDermott was released at the end of the season and will spend two weeks training with Dundee in a bid to earn a contract.
Monterrey arrivals
McDermott arrives after leaving one of Dundee’s partner clubs while another has sent over three youngsters for Pressley to run the rule over.
The Dark Blues partnership with Mexican giants Monterrey, currently competing in the Club World Cup, saw Cesar Garza and Chespi arrive on loan last January.
A change of approach has been taken this time, however, after Chespi failed to make an impact on the first team last season.
Dundee selected Jorge Landeros, Jose Urias and Oscar Soto from a list of options and will run the rule over the trio over the next two weeks.
Landeros is a 20-year-old midfielder born in Texas who has featured for the Rayados U/23 side on 15 occasions.
Urias is also a midfielder, featuring mostly as a defensive-minded player in the middle of the park and has been capped twice for Mexico at U/20 level.
He also played 22 times for his country at U/17 level and has made the first-team bench for Monterrey on six occasions. He’s also played in midfield alongside Garza in the U/23s.
Central defender Oscar Soto, meanwhile, is more experienced than his compatriots and made his first-team debut for Rayados in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Coming on for the final 14 minutes, he helped see out a 2-0 win at Forge FC in Canada alongside former Real Madrid midfielder Sergio Canales.
He’s not featured in a league match but has three caps for Mexico U/18s. Those came in friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Netherlands with the latter including recent Real Madrid signing Dean Huijsen.
Soto has been a regular starter at U/23 level for Monterrey and is no stranger to goals in the youth setup.
All three will be with Dundee for the next fortnight before decisions are made on potential loan deals.
