Dundee have snapped up “big man” Emile Acquah on a three-year deal from Barrow.
The 24-year-old striker arrives at Dens Park after helping the Bluebirds to a 16th-place finish in League Two last term.
The Dark Blues are keen for the frontman, who can also play on the wings, to provide a foil for star man and top scorer Simon Murray.
“I’m delighted to get it signed, I heard about the interest and I’m happy that it got done quickly,” he said.
“I spoke to the gaffer and he said he had watched me a few times and thinks I can do well in this team and in the league, so it’s an exciting move.
“Dundee are a big club and when I heard of the interest, I just wanted to get here.
“Coming to Scotland is a good new challenge for me, so far I’ve just played in England and I feel like I want something different.”
‘Big man’
Acquah made his senior bow with Southend United where he was a team-mate of former Dundee Player of the Year Nathan Ralph and recently departed skipper Joe Shaughnessy.
Loans to non-league sides followed before Maidenhead United snapped up the tall striker and he would go on to score 13 goals in 45 league games at National League level in 2022/23.
That earned a move back into league football with League Two Barrow for an undisclosed fee. In two seasons at Holker Street he scored 16 goals in 90 appearances.
“I’m a big man but I’m good with the ball at my feet,” Acquah explained.
“I like to make runs in behind and I will always work hard for the team and I’m always looking to get goals.
“As a striker, you get judged by how many times you put the ball in the net and hopefully, I can do that many times this season.”
Courier Sport understands the fee to be £33,000 up front, possibly rising to £100,000 if add-ons are met.
Acquah joins Drey Wright and Paul Digby in signing up for Steven Pressley’s Dark Blues this summer.
Pressley is also running the rule over five trialists over the next fortnight.
