The Dee were keen to fill the void left by the departure of captain Joe Shaughnessy by adding another experienced central defender to Steven Pressley’s options.

However, they have been unsuccessful in their pursuit of former Everton and Blackpool defender Pennington.
Instead Pennington has joined Bradford City on a two-year deal.
The Bantams are managed by former Scotland international and ex-Motherwell boss Graham Alexander and were promoted from League Two last season.
Pennington said: “It is always a tough decision because you need to measure up a lot of things but this is the right decision.
“I met the manager at the beginning of the summer and, after speaking to him, I wanted to get the deal done.”
