Charlie Reilly suffered a broken collarbone in Dundee’s friendly victory over Arbroath on Saturday.
The 23-year-old forward had hoped his rotten luck with injuries was behind him after an extended spell in the first-team squad last season.
Reilly’s first two campaigns had been beset by repeated muscle issues with the player himself admitting he’d had 11 different injuries in his first season.
After agreeing a one-year contract extension this summer, the former Hamilton and Albion Rovers forward is keen to prove his worth at Dundee.
And new head coach Steven Pressley admitted his excitement at seeing Reilly in action after being impressed in their early days working together.
However, Reilly’s chance to impress his new boss will have to wait.
In a first-half hit by unrelenting wind, Reilly showed the one bit of quality to win a penalty for his side after bursting through the Arbroath defence.
He tumbled under a challenge by Aaron Muirhead and landed awkwardly.
Reilly travelled to Ninewells Hospital where he was given the news he’d broken his collarbone and an operation will be needed.
Early assessments suggest he will be out of action for at least six weeks, though that could possibly rise to 12 weeks.
