Dundee boss Steven Pressley relaxed over search for new backroom team as he provides update

The Dark Blues still have a number of positions to fill.

Steven Pressley is “relaxed” despite still searching for replacements in the coaching department.

Leaving with manager Tony Docherty in May were assistant manager Stuart Taylor, goalkeeping coach Alan Combe and head of performance Graeme Henderson.

So far the only man to come in with Pressley has been David Longwell. He, though, has taken up a new position as technical manager.

And that leaves the new head coach with some posts to fill. However, he insists there will be no rush.

Stepping in to help with the goalkeeping situation is experienced coach Glen Johnson, who has worked at Queen’s Park, Gillingham and most recently Carlisle United.

Pressley confirmed he is a candidate for the job but others will also be spoken to.

He also revealed there has been plenty of interest in the assistant head coach position.

“We’ve got a goalkeeping coach in just now who’s with us for two weeks,” Pressley said.

“He’s part of the process but there will be several other candidates interviewed and then a decision will be made around that.

“Sports science, we’ve gone through the process and we hope soon to secure the individual that we have decided upon.

“And regarding another assistant coach, I put that out to interested parties and we’ve had quite a lot of feedback.

“The process has closed so we’re now starting the interview process and then a decision will be made.

“I hope in the next week or so we’ll have a decision on another coach.”

‘I’ve been impressed’

The quality of the coaching at Dundee so far, though, has impressed Pressley.

And he says that is a big reason why he’s happy to take his time over these appointments.

Asked if he was OK with the time it has taken to find the right people, he replied: “I am. I said this when I got the job, I was quite relaxed about this situation.

“I’ve got to say I’ve also been impressed with our two coaches.

“I like to give the coaches good autonomy to really grow and work and I’ve been pleased with Scotty Patterson.

“He’s got a really good connection with the players and I think he’s a coach with some really strong development.

“So I’ve been pleased and I’m quite relaxed about that.

“But I want to bring the right one in that can challenge us and bring his own good ideas.”
