Simon Murray admits he is unsure what the future holds for him – but one thing he is certain about is his determination to score for Dundee at Dens on Saturday.
The on-loan Hibs striker was the match winner for the Dark Blues on Tuesday night against Ross County in Dingwall with the three points ensuring Neil McCann’s side will be playing Premiership football next season.
As things stand, Murray will be returning to his parent club at the end of this season and if that is confirmed, then the lifelong Dundee fan is looking to leave on a high by scoring his first home goal against Partick Thistle.
The 26-year-old said: “I have not scored at Dens yet so I want to put that right this weekend.
“I probably think about things too much and perhaps I shouldn’t because I put too much pressure on myself.
“But I am a local guy, I’m a Dundee fan and scoring a goal at Dens Park is something I really want to do. It would be special for me.
“I could do with relaxing a bit more because I get into a lot of good positions but sometimes the composure isn’t there.
“So that’s something I need to work on and rectify.
“I have scored 17 for the season, which isn’t bad, and it should have been a lot more.”
Murray added: “At the moment I am going back to Hibs.
“I haven’t spoken to anyone there because we have been focused on what we’re doing at Dundee and they are fighting for second place.
“So we will get the season finished first then see what happens and just take it from there.”
Murray’s goal against the Staggies came when he reacted quickly as the ball flew up off the turf to head home.
It was his first counter since February and he rushed over to the Dundee fans to celebrate and was promptly booked.
However, Murray was just glad that he had done his bit to help his side avoid the relegation play-offs and ensure their safety.
He said: “I saw the ball skid up, it all happened so quickly and I caressed it in!
“A few folk asked whether it hit my face or not, but it didn’t.
“When you are struggling for a goal or two you need a bit of luck and maybe that was mine there.
“I had a few of those sort of goals when I played for United and I was just disappointed I didn’t add a couple more at Ross County.
“I just need to work on things a bit more and hopefully I can keep scoring goals.
“I enjoyed it and went into the fans because it was an important win for the club.
“It’s always good to come to the Highlands and get three points because it’s never easy.
“I am just glad the club are safe in the Premiership for next season and the play-offs are not a worry.
“We have been playing well and the lads just want to finish the season on a high note this weekend now.
“I think we have been playing good football lately, better than the position we are in.”
