Dundee United frontman Louis Appere looking to celebrate new deal with win in Dumfries

Louis Appere.

Dundee United frontman Louis Appere would love to celebrate his new deal by winning at Queen of the South today.

Appere signed a contract extention until the end of season 2021-22, joining manager Robbie Neilson and coaches Lee McCulloch and Gordon Forrest.

The 20-year-old, whose highlight of the seaosn thus far has been his terrific goal in the Dundee derby, is looking to shoot the Tangerines to promotion.

They need to get back on track at Palmerston this afternoon after defeat at Alloa last time out but they will only do that if they stay “focused.”

Appere said: “This contract is a big moment.

“Before the season, I wasn’t a first-team regular and now to be classed as that is a good feeling.

“I just want to make sure I stay there now.

“The aim this season is promotion, minimum.

“If we can go above that and win the league then brilliant.

“If we do that, we’re in the Premiership, so it’s exciting for me.

“However, it’s important to stay focused this season.

“It’s shouldn’t be the case but sometimes when you go to some of the smaller clubs it’s all about the mindset.

“Sometimes you’re thinking ‘we should beat this lot’ but teams are going to be more up for it coming up against us.

“Everyone in this league will be really up for it against United.

“If we get at it from the start, show up to games and do what we know we can do then we should be able to see out the league.”
