Dillon Powers is ready to hit the ground running with Dundee United after his 18-month deal with the Tangerines was confirmed.

The former MLS midfielder goes straight into Robbie Neilson’s squad for the trip to Partick Thistle and he is hoping for game-time at Firhill.

“I’d love to jump right into it,” said Powers on the club’s website. “We’ll see what happens.”

The American, who played for Orlando City and Colorado Rapids and won Rookie of the Year in 2013, impressed Neilson in a recent trial.

He added: “It’s all gone really fast.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club. It’s got such a rich history.

“I’d like to achieve promotion and then the goal is to compete in the Premiership and ultimately win a trophy and win the league.

“I have a lot of ambition that is matched by the club.”

Head coach Neilson said: “I am pleased to bring Dillon to United. He has fantastic experience playing alongside some great players in the MLS over several years. He has impressed me with his attitude and desire, and I see someone who wants to move forward with the club.”

Right-back Kieran Freeman has also signed, subject to international clearance.

The 19-year-old, who started off in United’s youth set-up before moving to Southampton, said: “A big factor in coming back to Tannadice was the opportunity to be around people I know, and I have been welcomed back by everyone.

“I have matured as a person, and I am more of an athlete than when I left, and I am looking forward to showing my ability for Dundee United between now and the end of the season.”
