New Hearts boss Robbie Neilson breaks silence on ‘fantastic time’ at Dundee United

Robbie Neilson is unveiled as the new Hearts manager.

Robbie Neilson had a “fantastic time” at Dundee United but the pull of a return to Hearts was too strong, he admitted.

The former Tangerines’ boss was unveiled at Tynecastle today after being head-hunted to replace Daniel Stendel a couple of weeks ago.

Neilson guided United to promotion from the Championship last season and looks back on his time at Tannadice with great affection.

But it didn’t require much persuasion for him to take up the challenge of a second stint in Edinburgh with the Jam Tarts.

“It’s a magnificent football club,” Neilson told Hearts TV.

“When Ann (Budge) spoke to me a couple of weeks ago about coming in there was no doubt in my mind. I felt it was the right place to come, at the right time, with the right people here.

“I had a fantastic time at Dundee United – had some great relationships with the players and staff.

“It was just that when Hearts come calling you can’t turn it down. I had a great time at Dundee United but this is the next chapter.”
