Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon has gone Dutch once again, welcoming central defender Christian Supusepa on trial.
The former Sparta Rotterdam, CSKA Sofia and Den Haag man has arrived at Tannadice and the hope is that he will follow compatriot Nick van der Velden into the Tangerines’ squad.
The 27-year-old, who played at under-19 level for the Netherlands, has already been highly recommended by frontman Van der Velden and McKinnon is optimistic about a possible deal for Supusepa should he show up well in training at St Andrews this week.
“Christian has been recommended to us from contacts I have over there,” said McKinnon.
“Also, Nick van der Velden has also told me that he is a very good player.
“We need a centre-half so he has come in for a few days so we can have a look at him.
“He will train with us this week and we will try to get a game to see him in.
“He has played at a good level in Holland and also in Bulgaria so he is definitely worth taking a look at.
“There is nobody in Scotland we can get our hands on and England is too expensive, so we’re looking to find a defender from somewhere else.”
Meanwhile, McKinnon has revealed that he is considering getting a scan done on Paul Dixon’s knee injury.
Dixon tweaked his ligaments in the Betfred Cup game at Inverness but hopes have been high that the damage isn’t too bad.
McKinnon said: “Paul might go for a scan if he doesn’t improve over the next few days.
“He landed awkwardly on his knee against Inverness and has a bit of trouble with certain movements.
“But we are hoping he is going to be OK.”
Jamie Robson came in for Dixon for the Betfred Cup win over Dunfermline on Sunday and McKinnon would be comfortable with giving him the nod again for the Championship opener against Queen of the South at Tannadice.
McKinnon said: “Robson did well against Dunfermline.
“His loan at Brechin did him the world of good and his attitude is spot on.
“That’s why we threw him in there.
“If Dicker is going to be out then we need to know what we’ve got in reserve so I was really pleased with him.”
Cammy Smith missed the Pars match with a sever migraine but, with Scott Fraser suspended, is expected to come right back into the starting line-up against the Doonhamers.
Meanwhile, former United goalkeeper Marc Mccallum has moved to Plymouth Argyle.
The 23-year-old left Tannadice by mutual consent in January and had most recently been on a short-term deal at Livingston.
He will team up with former United men Craig Brewster, who is assistant to boss Derek Adams, and striker David Goodwillie at Home Park.
