Dundee United’s Paul Dixon in with a shout for Sunday

Injured Dundee United full-back Paul Dixon has a chance of being fit to face Dunfermline in the League Cup on Sunday.

And even if he’s not fully recovered, the Tangerines are growing increasingly confident the problem that forced him off against Inverness Caley Thistle is not serious.

“Dicker has not trained yet this week and we’ll probably leave him until Friday before we get him to try some work,” said boss Ray McKinnon.

“We’ll decide then if he can play on Sunday but the main thing is he’s made a bit of progress.

“It’s looking encouraging. I don’t think he’s done anything serious.”

Away from the preparations for the final group game, Ray is continuing his search for new talent.

At the moment, however, nothing looks imminent.

“We came in, it was quiet for a while and then we got a lot of business done in a short period.

“It’s gone a bit quiet again but I’m still looking and there are a few things on the go.

“We’ll just see how they pan out but I would like to add to the squad if possible.”

There could soon be departures as several of the younger players get loaned out to gain first-team experience.

“We had a few clubs asking about kids they could maybe get on loan but I’ve hung back a bit while I assess the squad.

“It is something I’m keen to do because it helps with the development of young players.

“I want to get a few of them out playing first-team football and working in a man’s environment.

“Over the next week or two I would expect to see some movement on that score.”
