Silent Dundee United set to be full strength at Inverness

Dundee United are set to field a team of first-team regulars for tonight’s trip to Inverness.

In the wake of the news out-of-contract players were not being offered deals for next season and most of those under contract were free to find other clubs, there’s been speculation development players would have to be drafted in to make up the numbers against ICT.

That looks unlikely.

United battened down the hatches today and did not hold a pre-match press conference as would normally be expected.

That meant there was no confirmation from assistant manager Gordon Young — the man it’s assumed will take charge of the team — what the squad would be.

However, all the first-team squad worked together at the club’s training base at St Andrews this morning.

Suggestions foreign stars like Guy Demel, Edward Ofere and Eiji Kawashima would elect to leave immediately rather than play in the final three games of the Premiership campaign also proved wide of the mark.

They were all on the training pitch doing their work.

That’s as strong an indication as Arabs will get prior to kick-off that the line-up will be along normal lines.

And while, again, there has been no confirmation from United, it’s believed there are no major injury worries.

Meanwhile, although the odds on former Tannadice youth coach Ian Cathro becoming next manager have shortened, Raymond McKinnon remains the only candidate being considered.

Dundonian Cathro is on the coaching staff at Newcastle and it’s not even clear he’s expressed any interest in the job.
