Dundee United striker Rory MacLeod is set to pen a new contract with the Tannadice outfit.
MacLeod, 19, spent last season on loan with Southampton’s U/21 side, playing five PL2 game and opening his account against Stoke City.
The Scotland youth international also lined up against Leipzig, Real Sociedad, Sporting CP and Anderlecht in the Premier League International Cup, scoring twice against the German outfit.
However, the Saints opted against making MacLeod’s move to St Mary’s a permanent one and his contract with United is due to expire at the end of this month.
As such, the Tangerines have offered MacLeod an extension to keep him at Tannadice to battle for his place or – in the event of serious interest in his services – protect the club’s right to a fee.
Meanwhile, it is understood that promising goalkeeper Ruairidh Adams has agreed a contract to keep him at United following a fine campaign on loan with League One side Kelty Hearts last season.
Only Arbroath No.1 Aidan McAdams kept more clean sheets in the third tier than Adams’ tally of 14, culminating in youngster making his Scotland U/21 debut against Ireland in March – and saving a penalty kick.
Charlie Dewar, who shone on loan with Alloa Athletic, has also signed a new contract as the Terrors move to hold on to their most promising talents.
Courier Sport revealed last month that Scott Constable had penned an extension.
