The wait is almost over for Dundee United fans.
The Tangerines will learn their Europa Conference League second qualifying round opponents tomorrow afternoon, as they return to continental competition for the first time since 2022.
Here, Courier Sport sets the scene with everything you need to know.
United’s potential opponents are whittled down
United will have a much better idea who they could be paired with by Wednesday morning.
Uefa will split the teams into smaller groupings, with either four or five potential outcomes – albeit some of the opponents may depend on who progresses from a first qualifying round tie.
Those sections will be confirmed at 7.30am UK time on Uefa’s official website.
As an example, by the time this draw took place last year, St Mirren already knew they would face either Brann, Häcken, Bruno’s Magpies / Derry City, Cliftonville or Valur / KF Vllaznia.
While there is no official regionalisation at this stage of the draw (that has been the case since 2009), Uefa are understood to informally consider geography when arranging the groupings where possible.
As one can see from the fact the Buddies could have been sent to Albania (KF Vllaznia), that is not an exact science – and a far-flung trip is not out of the question.
When does the draw take place?
The Europa League and Champions League draws both precede the Europa Conference League on a busy day at Uefa’s “House of Football” in Nyon, Switzerland.
The Europa Conference League draw will take place at 1pm UK time.
Are Dundee United seeded?
Yes.
That means the Tangerines will avoid testing showdowns against the likes of Sparta Prague, Rapid Vienna and old foes AZ Alkmaar.
But even factoring in the informal regionalisation, some of the potential ties would represent onerous tests – most notably Swedish duo Hammarby and AIK Stockholm.
Northern Irish Cup winners Dungannon Swifts, Banga Gargzdai of Lithuania and UNA Strassen of Luxembourg are among the lowest-ranked sides that could theoretically be visit Tannadice.
United will be unseeded should they progress, opening the possibility of a far tougher clash in the third qualifying round – but the initial task is to simply get that far.
Home or away first?
Seedings have no bearing on which team plays at home in the first leg.
That is decided by the draw.
However, the order of legs of a tie can be reversed by Uefa due to scheduling (e.g. too many teams from the same city playing on the same night) or venue conflicts – so it’s best to wait for official confirmation before firing up Skyscanner.
Where to watch?
The draw will be streamed live on Uefa’s official website for free, or via the Europa Conference League app, which is available in the Apple Store and on Android.
