Dundee United’s possible Europa Conference League second qualifying round opponents have been whittled down to five potential ties.
Uefa confirmed their preliminary groupings at 7.30am this morning, narrowing down the options from 44.
Although informally regionalised, United could be heading anywhere from Northern Ireland to Macedonia after the balls are drawn in Switzerland this afternoon.
United will face either La Fiorita 1967 (San Marino) / FC Vardar (North Macedonia)*, NK Varaždin (Croatia), Floriana FC (Malta) / Haverfordwest County AFC (Wales)*, St Joseph’s FC (Gibraltar) / Cliftonville (Northern Ireland)* or UNA Strassen (Luxembourg).
Where asterisks are present, the winner is yet to be determined in the first qualifying round.
Best and worst outcomes?
The toughest test that United could face (according to Uefa’s coefficient) would be a showdown with Varazdin, who finished fourth in the Croatian top-flight last season, only behind big guns Rijeka, Dinamo Zagreb and Hadjuk Split.
Theoretically, UNA Strassen would be the best draw for Jim Goodwin’s charges, providing all of the seeded sides progress from their first qualifying round ties.
The full draw commences at 1pm at Uefa’s Nyon HQ and is available to watch live via Uefa’s official website or the Europa Conference League app.
