Dundee United have completed the signing of Guinea-Bissau international Panutche Camara.
Camara, 28, has penned a two-year contract with the Tangerines and becomes their third summer signing following the arrivals of Iurie Iovu and Zac Sapsford.
The combative, energetic midfielder arrives from Crawley Town, for whom he played more than 165 games. He also turned out for the likes of Plymouth and Charlton Athletic after arriving in the UK from Portuguese football as a youngster.
While he had a year left on his deal with the Red Devils, Courier Sport understands a clause in his contract opened the door for United to swoop in following their relegation to League Two last season.
United boss Jim Goodwin told the club’s official website: “Panutche will significantly improve both the physicality and technical ability of our midfield.
“He is an aggressive ball-winner, and displays excellent composure and creativity when in possession across the park.
“His professionalism, work ethic, and adaptability make him a natural fit for the culture we’re building here. We believe he’ll not only bring immediate quality to our squad but also serve as a role model for younger players coming through the system.”
‘Elite’ experience
As well as providing a dynamic figure in the engine room, Camara is comfortable as a “No.10” and can also operate in wide areas.
He was in the Guinea-Bissau squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, while he was on duty with his country as recently as this month for the fixtures against Burundi and Gabon.
Goodwin added: “Panutche has competed with elite-level players on the international stage. That exposure to high-pressure environments and top-tier talent has shaped him into a more complete, resilient player.”
