Dundee United are keen to seal a loan deal for Bosnia international striker Said Hamulic, Courier Sport understands.
Hamulic, 24, is currently on the books of Ligue 1 side Toulouse – to whom he is contracted until the summer of 2027 – but has been made available by the French outfit.
The Tangerines have been in discussions with Hamulic for some time, with talks accelerating in recent days and the player thought to be keen on a switch to Tannadice.
It is understood he could jet into Scotland as soon as next week as the Terrors seek to get the deal over the line.
Born in the Netherlands, Hamulic turned out for Go Ahead Eagles and Quick Boys in his homeland before making his name with a prolific couple of seasons in Lithuania with Dainava and Suduva.
A hugely successful loan stint with Polish side Stal Mielec – nine goals and four assists in 17 top-flight outings – brought him onto the radar of a host of European big guns, including Celtic.
However, it was Toulouse who ultimately swooped to seal a £1.7 million deal for the 6ft 2ins frontman in January 2023.
Toulouse struggles
He struggled to make his mark with Les Violets, failing to find the net in nine matches during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign – albeit he was in the squad as they lifted the Coupe de France.
Hamulic was one of three players unwilling to wear rainbow numbering against Nantes during a weekend of Ligue 1 fixtures dedicated to LGBT awareness on grounds of personal beliefs.
A club statement later read: “While respecting the individual choices of its players, and after numerous exchanges, Toulouse Football Club has chosen to leave the said players out of the match.”
Loan spells with Vitesse Arnhem, Lokomotiv Moscow and Widzew Lodz followed and, while affording him the opportunity to ply his trade in the top tiers of the Netherlands, Russia and Poland, he played just 28 games collectively, scoring once.
Business gathering pace
Nevertheless, United chiefs are understood to see the potential deal as an exciting prospect and firmly believe Hamulic can reignite his career and shine in the Premiership.
With the last of his six Bosnia and Herzegovina caps coming in November 2023, Hamulic will also be keen to ensure any summer switch allows him to battle back into international reckoning.
United have made three captures already this close season, with attacker Zac Sapsford, Moldova international Iurie Iovu and Panutche Camara.
Ukrainian goalkeeper Yevhen Kucherenko and his club, LNZ Cherkasy, have all-but agreed a move to Dundee United but clearance will be required before he can pull on the tangerine.
