Meshack Ubochioma is expected to leave Dundee United amid strong interest in Hungary.
The Nigerian winger joined the Tannadice outfit from Zalaegerszegi TE last summer, penning a two-year contract.
However, Meshack’s maiden campaign in Scottish football was a major flop, playing just three times for the Terrors – albeit he did score a memorable 99th-minute winner against Hibs in that time.
He was loaned out to Livingston in the Championship and once again failed to make the grade, racking up just six appearances. His last outing was as a late substitute against Queen’s Park on April 5.
And the Tangerines have told Meshack he can leave the club.
Courier Sport understands that has alerted one newly-promoted Hungarian top-flight outfit, who hope to seal a deal for the mercurial wide-man during this transfer window.
Meshack previously illustrated ample promise with Zalaegerszegi, bagging 10 goals and seven assists in 88 outings. He also impressed with Slovenian side NK Nafta after arriving from his native Nigeria in 2019.
But he will go down as a recruitment misfire for the Tangerines.
Richard Odada opportunity
However, Richard Odada is expected to be given the opportunity to shine during pre-season as he bids to kick-start his United career.
The Kenya international arrived from Philadelphia Union last July but visibly struggled to adapt to the pace of the game in Scotland during his 13 outings for the Terrors. He was loaned out to OFK Beograd for the second half of the season.
However, Goodwin still rates Odada and, with a full pre-season under his belt, reckons he could prove his worth in the coming weeks.
Latest on Said Hamulic
Meanwhile, United are expected to consider other targets after their bid to sign Said Hamulic on loan reached an impasse.
Sources close to Hamulic have intimated to Courier Sport that the Tangerines were NOT gazumped at the last minute. Nor did the player have a change of heart.
United chiefs believe the deal is not necessary dead but it is unclear whether the issues that caused talks to stall – which all parties are reluctant to expand upon – can be overcome.
A resolution is certainly not considered to be imminent.
As such, the Tangerines are likely to pursue other options, with Hamulic just one of several attackers being actively considered by boss Jim Goodwin this summer.
