Jim Goodwin insists he remains “comfortable” with the pace of Dundee United’s transfer business.
The Tangerines have added three new faces to their ranks, with striker Zac Sapsford, Moldova international Iurie Iovu and combative midfielder Panutche Camara all signing on the dotted line.
It is understood a deal for Ukrainian goalkeeper Yevhen Kucherenko has been agreed, with the club just waiting for a visa and work permit to rubber stamp his arrival from LNZ Cherkasy.
A loan move for Toulouse attacker Said Hamulic is now unlikely after talks stalled at an advanced stage, with United now understood to be considering other targets.
With a month to go until their Conference League opener against UNA Strassen, Goodwin is adamant the window is going to plan for the Terrors and expects more new faces in time for their test against the Luxembourgers.
Getting close
“We are working in the background and are quite close with a few players,” said Goodwin.
“Loads of names are being brandished about but I wouldn’t talk about anyone until it’s done. We are not in the habit of discussing players’ names while negotiations are ongoing.
“We’re comfortable with the way the process is going. Obviously, you want things done as quickly as possible. But we’ll have more players in before the European game, I’m confident of that.”
“We have spent the last six months identifying targets but, when you are after good players, they have options. People are not in a hurry to make decisions, but we have put our best foot forward and hope to get decisions.”
He added: “The players we’re looking at have all played consistently and at a good level and everyone we bring in will have first-team experience.”
Meshack exit
Confirming the impending exit of Meshack Ubochioma, as revealed by Courier Sport on Tuesday, Goodwin added: “Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for him here.
“We loaned him to Livingston to get him some game time but he couldn’t break into the team there.
“Sometimes these things happen.
“Our recruitment last summer was successful but not every one of them works out and that was the case for Meshack.
“When you have the volume of players we’re dealing with, you’re always going to have some who don’t find their feet. Some settle quickly and gel immediately, others take a bit of time. For others, it doesn’t happen.
“We wish Meshack well with whatever he does next.”
