Dundee United have secured their fourth summer signing with the arrival of Ukrainian goalkeeper Yevhenii Kucherenko.
The 6ft 3ins stopper has penned a two-year deal with the Tangerines, with a club held option for a further season, and arrives from LNZ Cherkasy in his homeland.
Kucherenko helped Cherkasy to a 12th-place finish in the Ukrainian top-flight last term and boasts one international cap at U/21 level.
He is seen as the ideal successor to the departed Jack Walton and will battle Dave Richards for the gloves this season.
Jim Goodwin told Dundee United‘s official website: “We’re excited to welcome a goalkeeper of Yevhenii’s quality to Tannadice.
“He commands his area decisively, possesses strong technical fundamentals and displays unwavering composure under pressure.”
Character and attitude
Well-travelled Kucherenko has previously been on the book of Georgian outfit Dila Gori, FC Aksu of Kazakhstan, Portuguese side Leiria and Kolos Kovalivka in Greece.
Goodwin added: “In addition to his strong performances between the sticks, we have been equally impressed by his character and attitude.
“Yevhenii has succeeded in testing himself across numerous different European leagues despite his youth, underlining his desire to develop as both a player and a person.”
Kucherenko follows Iurie Iovu, Zac Sapsford and Panutche Camara in joining the club as Goodwin revamps his group.
