Dundee United have agreed a deal to sign Dutch centre-back Bert Esselink as Jim Goodwin continues his Tannadice revolution.
Esselink, 25, is currently a free agent after his contract with Polish side Stal Mielec expired.
Courier Sport understands the player is already in Scotland as the club complete the formalities of his arrival, and has met his prospective new teammates.
Esselink will pen a two-year contract with the option for a further season, with his signing likely to be confirmed before Saturday’s friendly against Brechin.
He has also undergone his Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) hearing with the Scottish FA, another crucial step towards completing the move.
Former De Graafschap kid Esselink has turned out for Cypriot outfits PAEEK, APOEL and Olympiakos Nicosia.
The 6ft 3ins stopper is set to bolster United’s backline, joining Ross Graham, Iurie Iovu and Sam Cleall-Harding as options available to boss Jim Goodwin.
It is understood the Tangerines will remain in the market for another centre-back, even after Esselink’s signing.
United’s new look squad is beginning to take shape, with Iurie Iuvo, Zac Sapsford, Panutche Camara and Yevhenii Kurechenko already confirmed this close season.
