Dundee United are pursuing a loan deal for Ferencvaros midfielder Isaac Pappoe.
The 21-year-old joined the Hungarian champions from FC Aarau last summer but struggled to make his mark in the first team amid fierce competition for places, registering just five appearances in a campaign largely spent on the bench.
In a peculiar quirk, the coach who signed him for Fradi was Pascal Jansen, the manager of AZ Alkmaar when they hammered United 7-1 in the Uefa Conference League in 2022.
With little prospect of cementing a starting berth with Ferencvaros next term – and a contract running until 2028 – the Budapest giants are amenable to farming Pappoe out in search of regular action.
And Courier Sport understands United have made their move for the player, with positive talks already believed to have taken place between the Tangerines and Ferencvaros.
Sources close to Pappoe suggest he is open to a switch to Scotland as he bids to reignite a promising career.
Plenty of early promise
Prior to his move to Hungary, the 5ft7ins youngster – who emerged through the youth ranks at Golden Kicks Sporting Club in his homeland – impressed in the second tier of Swiss football with FC Aarau, notching two goals and five assists in 29 outings.
That followed an impactful campaign in the second division of Israeli football with AS Ashdod.
Servette and Basel were reportedly interested in his services before Ferencvaros swooped.
He has made two appearances for Ghana at under-19 level, playing in the same team as current St Johnstone defender Aaron Essel, who is on loan in the U.S. with North Texas SC.
United have already added Panutche Camara to their midfield ranks and Liverpool man Luca Stephenson – the Tangerines’ young player of the year last term – remains a live target; a fact the potential arrival of Pappoe would not alter.
As well as Camara, Iurie Iuvo, Zac Sapsford, Yevhenii Kurechenko and Bert Esselink have all joined United during a busy summer of recruitment.
