Dundee United are among several clubs considering a move for ex-Kilmarnock captain Kyle Vassell.
However, any suggestion that the Tangerines have formally tabled a contract is understood to be wide of the mark.
The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after his deal with the Rugby Park outfit expired.
Vassell is known to have options in the U.S. and England, while Killie would like to retain his services. And United boss Jim Goodwin is an admirer of the bustling front-man.
He is among several targets being weighed up by the club as they seek to add a powerful striker to their ranks.
Vassell joined Killie in the summer of 2023 and notched 20 goals in 89 outings. The well-travelled striker also boasts stints with the likes of Blackpool, Rotherham, Peterborough United and Fleetwood Town.
The Terrors are currently light of options in the final third, with Jort van der Sande, Zac Sapsford and teenager Owen Stirton currently the only recognised senior forwards at the club.
United have already secured six summer signings with the arrivals of Panutche Camara, Iurie Iuvo, Zac Sapsford, Yevhenii Kucherenko, Bert Esselink and Isaac Pappoe.
Finland U/21 international Dario Naamo will make it seven imminently.
Links with Barbados winger Thierry Gale have no substance.
Kucherenko arrives at Tannadice
Meanwhile, new goalkeeper Kucherenko has touched down in Scotland following his move from LNZ Cherkasy in the Ukraine.
Goodwin stated: “Yevhenii gets here on Friday night so the Arbroath game will be too soon for him. We’ll need him training with the group first, so he’ll come to Holland with us next week.
“After that he will play a part in the game we have (PEC Zwolle). Getting a goalkeeper sorted as well as the back line was very important this summer.”
On the prospect of further incoming transfers, Goodwin added: “We are still speaking to several players about coming here and hopefully we’ll get more work done. I’d like to think we’ll have some positive news next week.”
