Dundee United have snapped up Finland U/21 international Dario Naamo on a season-long loan from Austrian second tier outfit St Polten.
The Tangerines have also secured an optional clause to purchase the player for a fee Courier Sport understands to be modest five figures, should he thrive in Scottish football.
Prior to making the switch to Austria, Naamo represented FC Honka and SJK in his homeland – playing under former Tannadice analyst Stevie Grieve with the latter.
Naamo, who is primarily a right-back but can also play on the left, is fresh from representing his country at the U/21 European Championships in Slovakia.
United boss Jim Goodwin told United’s official website: “Dario personifies the modern-day wingback – energetic, combative and technically accomplished, with a desire to impact the game at both ends of the park.
“He’ll provide both depth and quality to our ever-strengthening playing group, adding healthy competition to his position – a key asset of every successful squad. We’re excited to integrate him with the rest of his teammates.”
He could make his debut against Arbroath on Saturday.
Naamo is United’s seventh summer signing following the captures of Panutche Camara, Iurie Iuvo, Zac Sapsford, Yevhenii Kucherenko, Bert Esselink and Isaac Pappoe.
