Dundee United boss Robbie Neilson looking to bolster striker options

Dundee United boss Robbie Neilson has admitted he will be looking for another striker in this transfer window.

The Tannadice manager was set to meet new club owner Mark Ogren on Saturday night to discuss potential signing targets.

The American millionaire had earlier watched his team secure a vital three Championship points with front man Nicky Clark coming off the bench to score a late winner against former side Dunfermline.

The 27-year-old, who has endured an injury-hit season, admitted afterwards that he is still to hit peak fitness and with Craig Curran having left to join Dundee it leaves Neilson with just Pavol Safranko as his other main striker.

The manager said: “Curran left last week and we are needing a bit of cover in there so we will look to recruit in that area as well.

“We’ll look to have Nicky Clark, Safranko and another to give us the cover we need for the rest of the season.”

Neilson also admitted he was delighted to welcome Gordon Forrest as his new assistant.

The former Raith player was appointed just 24 hours before United faced the Pars after spending six years in the MLS as assistant manager and head of high performance at Vancouver Whitecaps.

Neilson added: “I am very pleased to get him in.

“I didn’t know him previously. I’ve heard of him.

“It’s refreshing to get someone in who has different ideas and he’s very experienced.”

United had hoped to have Morgaro Gomis available for the Pars game but the midfielder – whose last club had been in Oman – had to be content with watching from the stands as his international clearance had not come through in time.

However, the formalities have now been completed and the 33-year-old will be available to play against Montrose in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Meanwhile, centre-half Tam Scobbie has returned to Tannadice after his loan spell with Partick Thistle ended this weekend.
