Scotland’s goal hero John McGinn believes Euro 2020 finals are within grasp

John McGinn equalises for the Scots.

Scotland’s two-goal hero John McGinn was delighted to finish the campaign with a flourish.

McGinn equalised for the Scots, helped distract Kazakhstan keeper Dmytro Nepogodov for Steven Naismith’s second then scored again just before the final whistle to help secure a 3-1 victory in their final Euro 2020 qualifying Group I game at Hampden.

With direct qualification having escaped them, the focus turns to the play-offs next March.

The Aston Villa midfielder said: “I’m just over the moon to get the goals again and more importantly to have a good performance as well.

“Hopefully, I can carry on scoring.

“If it is helping the team and the campaign then I am delighted.

“I want to carry it on into the play-offs.

“I think it helps the way the team is playing.

“We’ve got to believe now.

“Tonight was a night where it could easily have been the same old Scotland but we regrouped, got together again and definitely going into the play-offs we are in a much better place.

“I haven’t booked a holiday for next summer because I believe we will get there,” added the former Hibs man.

“For a long time it has been Scotland sitting on the sidelines when other teams are playing in major championships.

“There won’t be another country in the Home Nations who are craving getting to this Euros more than us.

“We just want to give the fans, the loyal supporters who turn out to watch us, something to shout about.

“Getting to a major tournament for them is the aim of everyone.”
