Brechin players are not losing confidence, says Darren Dods

The Championship table might not show it, but Darren Dods is convinced that his Brechin City team are on the up.

Bottom of the league, six points adrift of the second-placed side and winless – the bare statistics do not leave much scope for optimism.

But Dods has seen improvement in his team and he expects that to continue at Livingston today, and beyond.

He said: “We passed the ball really well against Queen of the South last week and in the end they were the team holding on.

“There’s a great spirit in the squad and the players aren’t losing confidence.

“I would say that they’ve improved from last season to this season and they’ve taken belief from the fact that they’ve been able to compete with players they might have thought would be better than them.

“They’re saying to themselves ‘I’m playing well, here’. That’s a big thing.

“Queens were much better than us at the start of the season when they beat us 4-1 and you can compare that to last weekend when we were unlucky to lose. There’s definite progress.”

That progress should be aided by the return of two key players in a few weeks and then the transfer window.

Dods added: “Andy Jackson and Ryan McGeever should be back in December and we’ll have Euan Smith available before then.

“The aim is to keep on the coat-tails of the teams above us before we get to January.”

On today’s opponents, Dods said: “Livingston have carried on from last season. They’ve got good quality down both sides and I think they’ve scored the most goals from set-pieces in the league.”

Ally Love is suspended for Brechin.
