Brechin will ‘give it a real go’ against Dumbarton

The mantra for Brechin City against Dumbarton this afternoon will be “give it a real go”, according to manager Darren Dods.

Today’s visit of second bottom Dumbarton to Glebe Park represents one of the basement side’s best chances left to get the elusive first league win of the season.

And Dods is determined that they will take the game to their opponents after falling short against the same team on the road in midweek.

“They sat in against us and we had a lot of the ball on Tuesday night,” he said.

“But we didn’t work them enough. The quality wasn’t great from our crosses and their experienced defenders dealt well with them.

“We didn’t really get going. With the possession we had we should have troubled them more.

“We’ll probably try something a bit different because when Dumbarton are compact, they’re a difficult team to break down.

“We’re at home this time and we’ll give it a real go.”

Dumbarton still have a chance of catching Inverness Caley Thistle above them, with the gap just six points, so their motivation is as high as Brechin’s.

Dods said: “I was speaking to Steven Aitken on Tuesday and he agreed with me that it’s getting harder and harder for part-time teams to compete in this division these days.

“You’ve got things like video analysis and sports science which are big things for full-time teams now.

“This is the only game when we’re on a level footing with another club in the league but they will be targeting it the same as us.

“They’ve only won five games all season, and three of those have been against us.

“They have all been one-goal games and hopefully we’ll get the breaks to help us get the win this time.”

Jordan Sinclair returns from injury and Willie Dyer from suspension. Paul McLean and Andy Jackson are still out and Kosta Gadzhalov won’t play again this season after dislocating his shoulder.
