John Potter has confessed he harboured concerns over how he would fit in to Dunfermline’s management team this season after being replaced as boss by Allan Johnston.
But the former St Mirren and Pars defender is thrilled to have penned a new two-year deal to remain part of Johnston’sbackroom team.
Potter became Fifers boss when Jim Jefferies left in December 2014 but could only steer the team to seventh in League One and was demoted to his previous role as first-team coach and under-20s boss to allow Johnston to take the helm last summer.
Despite having played with Johnston at St Mirren and Queen of the South, Potter admits he was unsure as to how their relationship would develop.
However, the 36-year-old is delighted to be able to look forward to life in the Championship next term after playing his part in promotion.
He said: “It was always a worry at the start about how we were going to get on, but the manager made it pretty clear that we were part of a team.
“Everybody had their jobs and we knew what we were doing.
“We worked quite well together. It has been successful, with winning the league.
“We know it is going to be harder next season. It is a challenge and you want to go and challenge yourself against better players.
“It is the club that I support. It has been a good season and I think I have been part of that. The manager made it pretty clear a while ago that he wanted me to stay.
“I am happy to do that and I just hope that it will be another successful season next season.”
