Brechin boss Darren Dods is still hoping striker Robert Thomson will agree to stay with the club – although the Glebe gaffer acknowledges the lure of the Championship may prove too much for the player to resist.
The 22-year-old who started his career with Dundee United, hit a rich vein of scoring form towards the end of this season.
That put him on the radar of other clubs with Dumbarton believed to be just one side who have been monitoring his progress.
Dods said: “I have spoken to Robert and we want him to stay at Brechin but there is interest in him from a couple of Championship clubs.
“That was bound to happen after he scored eight goals in our last 10 games.
“It will be difficult for us to keep him and the Championship looks like an attractive proposition for a player next season with Dundee United and possibly Hibs as well as Kilmarnock all there.
“Ideally, we would like to get Robert tied up but at the moment he is just keeping his options open.
“I am also working away on two or three other targets but at this stage of the year, it is very much a waiting game.”
One player who will definitely not be at Brechin next season is Craig “Tiger” Molloy.
The long-serving midfielder has left the club with Dods revealing he has done so in pursuit of more regular first-team football.
The manager added: “Tiger was a great servant of the club and was well liked by everyone.
“However, he is 30 now and wants to be playing regular football which he was not getting with us with James Dale doing really well.
“Tiger wanted to be playing week in, week out and he was also travelling up from Greenock every week.
“It is sad to see him leave but I am sure he will not be without a club for long.”
