Brechin manager Darren Dods insists his team will have to take their chances when they’re on top following a 1-0 defeat from Albion Rovers at the Exsel Group Stadium.
City dominated the opening 45 minutes but couldn’t breach a solid home defence.
It was a different story after the break with Albion having the lion’s share of pressure and possession.
They made the breakthrough in the 70th minute when former Glebe Park defender Mick Dunlop blasted a fierce drive through a ruck of players to ensure his side finished the match with maximum points.
“We played really well in the first-half – probably as good as we’ve played for the last few weeks with the players linking up well, and we tested their keeper a few times – but we lost our way a wee bit in the second-half,” said Dods.
“We were dominated by Rovers’ physical threat, and for the first time this season we looked susceptible to the ball into the box.
“Albion Rovers are a very good team and once they go in front they are very, very difficult to break down and they don’t lose many goals.
“We have to learn that when we’re on top, as we were in the opening 45 minutes, you have to make that pressure count.
“Hopefully the players will learn from that,” he said.
“There’s no doubt that injuries have hit us badly in recent weeks.
“But, having said that, the team that went out today were more than capable of taking something from the match as we had enough experience and quality within the 11 who took the field.”
Despite the disappointment with the result, City supporters were delighted with the performance of Liam Watt who rejoined the club on Friday evening after his release from Livingston. Watt, who was so influential for the team last season when they avoided the drop after being 15 points behind, has signed until the end of the season.
