East Fife showing grit and style

Darren Young.
Darren Young.

East Fife have shown grit and style in their last two wins.

And more of both would do nicely for manager Darren Young away at Ayr United this afternoon.

He said: “The Airdrie performance was a bit patchy but the Forfar one was a really good performance apart from a five-minute spell where they had us under a bit of pressure.

“We had a lot of success early on where we were getting in behind their defence and that was very pleasing to see as it was something that we had worked hard on in training during the week.

“I was delighted that the players put into practice what we asked them to do and it was great to see Chris Duggan finishing well again. It was the perfect result and performance ahead of going to a tough venue at Somerset Park.”

Young knows that securing a third consecutive win and climbing over Ian McCall’s side in the table will be difficult, however if his side defend to the top of their game then they have a chance.

The Bayview boss said: “Ayr got back to winning ways last week after a disappointing run so this will be a tough test for us as they will look to show they mean business in terms of keeping pressure on Raith Rovers at the top of the league.

“They will come out looking to get a lead established early and we need to sit in and frustrate them in the first part of the game and then build from there.”

“If we give ourselves a solid base then we have the players to win the game as well.”

Kevin Smith is the only absentee.
