New Forfar boss Jim Weir relishing home debut as Ayr visit Station Park

Jim Weir will be in the home dugout at Station Park for the first time when Forfar take on Ayr United today.

The new Loons boss was in charge for the trip to Hampden last weekend and saw his side concede the latest in a string of late goals to draw 1-1 against Queen’s Park in League One.

Weir can’t wait to get started in front of the home support this afternoon, albeit he knows the Honest Men will be formidable opponents.

He said: “I look forward to every match but I guess your home debut as manager makes this that wee bit more special.

“We have picked really tough opposition for this one but we are going into the game on the back of a good performance last Saturday.

“It will take me a bit of time to find my best team and formation but I’m relishing the challenge.

“There were lots of positives to take out of the Queen’s Park game, even though I felt for the players when that equaliser went in.

“You could see how disappointed they were and it was harsh on them, even though Queens could have argued that a draw was probably a fair result over the 90 minutes.

“There are some things for us to work on and I have had a chat with the lads to tell them that what they need to do is keep working hard and retain possession for longer periods.

“If we can do that then maybe our luck can turn.”

Forfar will be without Simon Mensing, Jim Lister and Eddie Malone, will all three experienced players carrying knee injuries.
