Montrose manager Stewart Petrie insists too much can’t be read into their derby disappointment because of the dreadful weather conditions.
The Gable Endies suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Forfar at Station Park last Saturday and are looking to pick themselves up when League One’s bottom club Stenhousemuir visit Links Park today.
Petrie believes his players need not dwell on the loss to the Loons and praised both Angus clubs for battling through.
He said: “I have to say that credit was due to both sets of players for the way they soldiered on.
“The conditions were terrible and I also have to congratulate the fans for giving us such great vocal support when they probably would have rather been anywhere else such was the extreme weather.
“With all that in mind, you can’t read too much into that game.
“We started well enough and I think a draw probably would have been a fair result.
“Credit to Forfar and Dale Hilson, though, for getting the late goal in the game.
“We have to look ahead now and we are facing a Stenhousemuir team under new management that will be keen to impress.
“Like us, they have had some mixed results this season.
“We are at home, though, and we are always keen to build what a great win against Raith Rovers the last time we played in front of our own crowd.”
Terry Masson is available again after suspension but Martin Rennie is doubtful after suffering a knock against Forfar.
