Montrose boss Paul Hegarty looking for two wins on the bounce

Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is looking for his side to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they travel to face Cowdenbeath this afternoon.

The Angus side bounced back strongly in midweek following last Saturday’s bitterly-disappointing defeat at home to Edinburgh City with a victory on Tuesday night at Annan.

The game was played in atrocious snowy conditions with Montrose storming into a 2-0 lead only to be pegged back.

However, sub Michael Bolochoweckyj popped up with what proved to be the winner and Hegarty is hoping his players can show the same will-to-win at Central Park today.

The manager said: “We were absolutely delighted to take three points in really difficult conditions.

“The lads’ attitude was first-class and they battened down the hatches in the second half only to be undone by an unfortunate own goal.

“However, we kept battling away and Cammy Ballantyne sent in a great cross for Michael Bolochoweckyj who produced a clinical finish to net the winner.

“The boys worked extremely hard and it was great to finally get home at the back of one on Wednesday morning knowing we had three points in the bag.

“The lads were back in on Thursday for a light session and they were in fine spirits after the Annan result.

“I keep going on about consistency but it is so important and we will now go to Central Park and try to get something from the game against Cowdenbeath.

“We haven’t had back-to-back wins so far this season and it would be a fantastic time to do so.”

Montrose’s Gregor Anderson is a slight doubt for the game because of illness.
