Dick Campbell was delighted to see Eddie Ferns score on his debut to help the Red Lichties defeat Edinburgh City for the first time in three attempts.
The Gayfield boss, who had seen his side draw at Meadowbank earlier in the season before losing to the league newcomers at Gayfield, was also impressed by Omar Kader’s decisive second which made sure of the points.
Campbell said: “It was a very solid performance and I don’t think they put us under any great pressure. We were the better team despite us being without a few players, and I can’t complain about coming here and winning without losing a goal.
“Kader’s goal was well worked and I was pleased that Ferns fitted in well on his debut.
“He’s got great pace and scored a good goal.
“We now have two home games to look forward to as well as a big friendly with Dundee on Tuesday when some other players will get a run out.”
Ferns hooked the ball over Andrew Stobbie to open the scoring in the 10th minute.
City responded positively and Ousman See went down under a challenge in the box but referee Gavin Ross was quick to dismiss the home side’s half-hearted penalty claims.
Arbroath came close to extending their lead with two free-kicks early in the second half, Doris firing narrowly wide before Gavin Malin’s curling effort was tipped over by Stobbie.
Malin then blasted over the bar with the goal at his mercy and Ferns shot wide.
The second goal came in the 64th minute when Doris won the ball in midfield before setting Linn free on the left and the winger’s low cross to the far post was met by Kader who swept the ball home.
Former Scotland international Craig Beattie had a great chance for City but blasted high over the top.
Ricky Gomes came to Arbroath’s rescue shortly afterwards when he got down well to again deny Beattie.
